Alberta Wild Rose

Alberta Wild Rose Flower

Every province in Canada has an official Provincial Flower. As a kid I wondered why a province would bother with having an official flower. It wasn’t until years later when I left my home province of Saskatchewan that I realized the importance of having official symbols. They represent home and when you see them it makes you feel proud, like it belongs to you and you belong to it.

The provincial flower of Alberta is the Alberta Wild Rose. I’m not from Alberta but I live there. Most importantly, my kids were born in Alberta. The other day when I saw an Alberta Wild Rose bush growing in the forest on the outskirts of my friends acreage, I was drawn to it. This flower is one symbol in many that represents me, my new home, and my family.

Yep. Tiger lilies, a green and yellow flag, and the Roughriders….

    • For sure. My parents grew Tiger Lilies in our yard. I keep a SK flag in my class. I love the Riders!
