To Our Mother; My Wife

MselfieAlways there for me: in the middle of the night, when I get off the school bus, to hug me when I’m feeling happy as well as sad.

Underappreciated: there will come a day when I truly recognize and appreciate all that you have done for me and all the effort you gave to make me who I am, but for now, just know I love you unconditionally.

Sacrificer: something else I won’t fully appreciate until I’m older, but rest assured I’m taking it all in: your patience given, time dedicated, energy spent, love spread.

Teacher: you’ve taught me many things big and small, and will continue doing so for the rest of your life, but it’s those basic fundamentals I want to make a special point to thank you for — a critical life skill as well as a way to better enjoy pool parties with family or friends, our time spent at the beach … thank you for teaching me to swim.

Intelligent and strong: our entire family draws upon your strength daily and benefits from your intelligence just as often – teacher and educator, backbone and glue.

Never alone: you might think this refers to the fact that you rarely, if ever, get any time to yourself, but what it really means is that you will always be the most important person in my life and I will always be part of yours.

Always there for me: in the middle of the night, when we wait together for my brother to get off the school bus, to hug me when I’m feeling happy as well as sad.

Demonstrator: I’m 3, and in the grand scheme of things I don’t know how to act or what to say; nor do I know what NOT to say — but you are that constant guide for me and someday it will click.

Amazing: my eyes are wide, my eyes are blue, and in no small way that’s because of you — your quiet patience in contrast to the firm discipline I crave, your steady care in contrast to the wild fun we have.

Me: I’m you and you are me and that’s a special bond that we alone share — confident and forward, leader and charmer.

Young at heart: I’m still your baby and always will be, our hearts are one and will stay forever young together — you will always be the most important person in my life and I will always be part of yours.

Best friend: for me, you weren’t always there, but I always knew you were coming — when you arrived I instantly knew I not only found someone to spend the rest of my life with, I found my best friend forever.

Respect: there is nobody I respect more than the mother of my children — the sacrifices you’ve made and will continue to make are beyond my comprehension and I will always be in awe of you.

Attractive: since day one, now and always until our last, I will be attracted to you in mind, body, and spirit.

Dedication: your dedication to family, friends, and profession is inspiring and recognized — in return, I promise you nothing more than the same.
