5 Backyard Projects to Get Kids Outside

5. Build a treehouse

Treehouse Backyard Projects - Dads Round Table

This backyard project is a little more labor-intensive, and you’ll need more know-how to do it safely, but the backyard treehouse is the quintessential summer hangout for kids, so I can’t very well pass it up. If you’ve got a nice thick tree with spreading boughs, a lot of the load-bearing work is done for you, so it’s as simple as building a frame to fit the tree, and then a simple roof to keep the rain off. Build a rope ladder or some drilled handholds to get inside, lay down some outdoor area rugs for comfort, and you’ve got a bona fide treehouse that Norman Rockwell would be proud of.
