Dear Taylor Swift, Thank You!

Dear Taylor Swift,

On behalf of all dads with daughters, I would like to apologize for the apparent fact that every relationship you have fails and you write a #1 hit song bashing the boy and empowering young girls everywhere.  As a father of a young girl who loves your music and videos, I want to say THANK YOU for you inability to chose the right guy and have a solid supportive relationship, because it makes me happy that my daughter dances around singing “We will never ever ever, get back together!”  As I look at the lyrics below, I see a simple lesson learned, that no matter what a boy says, when he does my little girl wrong, she does NOT have to get back with him because he says sorry; that he can permanently screw up his chances with her.  So, in your failings, you have become a good thing for my daughter.

Sincerely,

DADS!

“WE WILL NEVER GET BACK TOGETHER!”

I remember when we broke up, the first time
Saying “This is it. I’ve had enough.”, feels like
We haven’t seen each other in a month
When you said you needed space – what?
Then you come around again and say
“Baby, I miss you and I swear I’m gonna change
Trust me”, remember how that lasted for a day
I say, “I hate you”, we break up, you call me, “I love you”

Ooh we called it off again last night
But ooh, this time I’m telling you, I’m telling you!
We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

Like ever…

I’m really gonna miss you picking fights
And me, falling for it screaming that I’m right
And you, would hide away and find your peace of mind
With some indie record that’s much cooler than mine

Ooh you called me up again tonight
But ooh, this time I’m telling you, I’m telling you!
We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together
Ooh ooh ooh…

I used to think, that we, were forever ever ever
And I used to say “never say never”
Huh, so he calls me up and he’s like, “I still love you”
And I’m like, I’m just, I mean this is exhausting, you know
We are never getting back together, like ever

We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

We! Ooh, never getting back together
We! Ooh, getting back together

You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

About ManvDadhood

I am a man, and by my wife’s standards that makes me flawed. My challenge to parents, and to myself, is not to teach my kids about the kind of person I hope them to become one day, but to become that person today.
