Paper Toys For Boys

Finally! My son has taken an interest in something that doesn’t cost me a fortune: Paper Vehicles.

I remember my sister creating and then playing with paper dolls as a kid. My son does the same thing except instead of dolls, he plays with paper vehicles, mostly trucks and construction vehicles.

It started with him asking me to draw pictures of his favorite vehicles: dump trucks, street sweepers, and garbage trucks. Then one day he decided the pictures needed to be cut out so he could play with them.

After a drawing a couple hundred vehicles, I started to get pretty good at it. The better I got, the longer it took to create a paper vehicle. Soon, my son grew impatient with the production time and we came up with a good solution: stencils.

My wife found some Melissa and Doug Truck stencils. Now he could create his own paper vehicles while waiting for me to finish one of my drawings. Also, if he needed a quick supply, we could make a bunch quickly using the stencils. His sister helps him out with cutting and coloring.

My son’s favorite toys are Lego and Playmobil. Both are amazing toys of outstanding quality. Both are expensive. While I do love how Paper Vehicles foster hands-on creativity, my favorite thing about them is the price.
