Dad’s Night to Cook: Garbage Truck Cereal

My kids love cereal.  We only buy the healthy stuff; so, when it’s Dad’s Night to Cook, cereal is always an option.

Lately, for whatever reason, my son has become obsessed with garbage trucks.  A garbage truck is number 1 on his list for Santa.  When he asked for cereal last night he asked for Garbage Truck Cereal.  So, like any innovative chef, I made it happen.

A little bit of this and little bit of that with a good measure of hissing hydraulic sounds as the boxes tipped and we had ourselves a bowl of the finest Garbage Truck Cereal we’d ever seen.  Most importantly, my son was grinning ear to ear and he ate the whole bowl and 2 more.

  1. Surprisingly bran flakes.

Your favorite or your boys? If you, not so surprising with 40 just around the corner. ha ha. Boys… now that is surprising. With loads of sugar or as is?

  2. We go through cinnamon Life like nobody’s business at my house. It’s actually kind of disturbing the amount of cereal my children eat. They get it from their mother for sure. She’s definitely one that will have 5 different cereals in-progress at the same time and hit probably 3 of them in some fashion in a single sitting! I like cereal but not like that.

    • James Hudyma says:

I love cereal too but not like that, either. I really like the hot cereals. We have one here in Canada called Red River; I love it.

  3. My daughter started the trend of mixing cereals. I don’t get it. Also the same concept follows with mixing different fountain sodas.

My 5 year old LOVES Oatmeal Squares. Frosted Mini-Wheats is a staple in the house as well. My 7 year old daughter even made up a song about how much she likes Frosted Mini-Wheats. There’s a pumpkin granola at Costco all the kids love as well.

    • James Hudyma says:

I’ve had the pumpkin granola from Costco and I like it too. Mini-Wheats are a big hit at our house too.

I remember mixing soda (pop as we call it) as a kid and calling it Swamp Water. We’d go to the 7eleven and drink gallons of it. Surprised I don’t have diabetes.

  4. Honey Nut Cheerios and Captain Crunch for me. I’m not sure our boys know that any other cereals exist beyond Cheerios yet. Their Mom runs a tight ship.

Am I supposed to be seeing a garbage truck at top right of bowl with Cheerios as two wheels and mini-wheat as body? Because I do.

Love this story and love kids being at this age of belief. Told my boys I was making the biggest pancake ever this weekend (not even close) and they ate it up…both the story and the pancake.

  5. James Hudyma says:

I can’t keep sugary cereals like those in the house or I’ll eat them until they’re gone. Literally, no control.

The garbage truck you see, now I see it too, wasn’t intentional. So pumped that you found that. This picture just rose to a new level of awesomeness for me. Thanks!

I remember reading about that pancake on Twitter. I’m a big fan of tall tales.

  6. Mini-wheats are a big hit in our house.

On a related note, my son also wants a garbage truck for Christmas. Nothing else, just a garbage truck. He’s been talking about it for a couple of months. Now where to find one… lol

  7. My favorite as a kid was definitely Life, but my kids seem to love Frosted Mini-wheats and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

  8. My son would eat Cheerios all day every day if we let him. Some night… I do. :-/

  9. Never been a huge cereal fan, but once in a while I go for a bowl of Kix or Corn Chex or Frosted Flakes for dessert.
My kids love cereal. Honey Bunches of Oats and Cinnamon Toast crunch are trending at our house currently.
Funny thing is though, they LOVE their dad’s cholesterol lowering twig cereal. They will eat it by the handful. Bleh!!!
