Top 5 Reasons to buy a Smartphone in the Spring

I recently upgraded from the 2013 HTC One to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3.  If you want me to do a comparison of phones, comment below and I will, but the purpose of this article is to give you an idea of the benefits of upgrading or purchasing a phone during this particular time of year.  I myself an a techie, and try to work things out the get the best of the best right when it comes out, but there are advantages to waiting for just the right moment.

5: Device Demand Drops.  Carriers and manufacturers are on a mission to clear out their current inventory before the new devices get launched.  This time of year there is talk of the iPhone 6 (or iPhone Air as it may be called), the Galaxy Note 4, the LG G3 that have yet to be released.  Meanwhile, the All New HTC One (M8) and Samsung Galaxy S5 have recently launched.

4: You’ll have a new toy to play with all Summer.  In fact, I am about to head off for Spring Break with a new toy to explore Galaxy Note 3).  This time of year is all about new beginnings and rebirth, so why not do that with a new smartphone to bring a new revitalization to your social media life.

3: Discounted Flagship phone is better than a new bottom-shelf model.  They remain swift and amazing for a couple years, and a flagship phone that is 1 year old is a better choice than a brand new discount model.  Would you rather drive a Mercedes Benz AMG from last year, or a new E-Series (economy class)?

2: Techies and tech companies look ahead. Meanwhile,  consumers can take advantage of  this Device Release Limbo period.  At this point in the year you can take advantage of tech companies and mobile phone carriers who are trying to offload all their old inventory.  During the Spring you can get a phone that is less than a full year old for half the price.  It is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of our rampant consumerism.

1: It won’t be turned into a Christmas gift.  Fall launches means you get a new phone for Christmas, when everyone else does, and it’s your one lone box under the Christmas tree.  Instead, use the Spring as an opportunity to indulge yourself.  Besides, the holidays are stressful enough without adding the trouble of figuring out a new phone, or convincing everyone that you just want the new ___ device.  In my experience, it doesn’t matter how much you want something, it always feels good to open LOTS of little presents on Christmas morning.

Let’s review: If you are in the market for a new smartphone, but don’t necessarily want, or need, the newest and fastest (by nanoseconds) device out, then go phone shopping in the Spring.

Happy Hunting!

I am a man, and by my wife’s standards that makes me flawed. My challenge to parents, and to myself, is not to teach my kids about the kind of person I hope them to become one day, but to become that person today.
