Girls Have More Fun?

Taking no chances she slipped into hiding.

Breathing heavily she attempted to still her body in case he came this way. She wasn’t supposed to be up here and discovery would lead to unanswerable questions. Listening intently she strained her ears to hear if he was coming. This was not as easy as it sounded because she was also listening for something else that she KNEW was only a few feet away. The ultimate problem was asleep in the very next room, the waking of whom was NOT an option.

She giggled. Oh well.

But the immediate problem was NOT a giggling matter, so she focused her attention back on who she was trying to hide from. He who would just die if he found her in this room. It could be said that she wasn’t exactly allowed where she was right now. She was breaking the rules and both of them knew it. The twist being, did both of them really know it?

For all she knew, he didn’t have a clue. He didn’t realize at all that she was exactly where he would least expect her. The thrill let another laugh escape from her mouth and she quickly threw up her hands to quiet the sound, the silenced laughter now shining through her eyes.

She heard steps. Ducking her head into her knees she tried to disappear.

It would have to end soon. She just knew eventually her deceit would be exposed, that it was only a matter of time before she was discovered. Risks were taken and you lived with their outcome. An outcome she could deal with, but could he? He tended to overreact. He tended to make a scene. What he tended to do was be a complete baby about certain things.

A door creaked open and she heard the footsteps as well as now felt them through the floor. He was in the same room! The same room that she wasn’t supposed to be in, and that meant he KNEW.

Knew she risked far too much in the name of a game.

Opening the closet doors of her hiding spot and eyes going wide with shock he cried, “Mommy, what are you doing in my room? You could have woke him! I don’t want him waking up from his nap yet. Okay, my turn to hide.” The sound of his feet hitting the floor as he ran away louder than anything SHE had done pretty much all day.

She laughed again, wondering if he had this much fun with Daddy on their sick day together.

“Nah,” she thought. Girls know how to have more fun.
