Far Greater Men than I

Thinker

That life should be so fragile and frail
Especially to those who have the strength to strengthen others.
Those who dream to dare others to dream.
Far greater men than I.

That the suffering of others becomes the pain of ours.
When lives of great measure become lives of measured times.
Oh that I could give my measured time to those.
Far greater men than I.

On God, I will never understand.
How does one choose the end of man?
How does one tear down such the likes of greatness?
Of far greater men than I?

Up to the heavens I look, with one hand in a fist.
How angered my soul becomes amid such pain.
Why? I ask. Why wouldn’t you take me instead?
Instead of far greater men than I.

I. Just a spec of the universe.
Dancing through the void, through the sands.
In a sea of faces I am no greater.
There are far greater men than I.

Win or lose, right or wrong. Up or down.
I’ve been, I’ve seen, I’ve done, I’ve regret.
I’ve not purposed myself in a manor of prodigious nature
Like far greater men than I.

Trembling I fall to my knees.
The tears stream down my face like rivers over smooth stone.
That I will never understand the cruelty of fate
For far greater men than I.

We carry on we walk, we sneak, we stare.
Somehow, I breathe, I blink, I feel.
Somehow it was seen fit for me but not
For far greater men than I.

Dearest God that you would open my eyes.
That you would plant in me the answer.
That you would show me why it was me rather
Than far greater men than I.

Shamefully I disembowel the honor.
That such men of such stature radiated in their presence.
Ashamedly I spoil the fruits of those
Far greater men than I.

My life. My Breath. My Being.
I would trade it away at times.
To see to it that God see fit to give it
To far greater men than I.

That I shall one day begin to see purpose.
That I shall one day believe to the cause.
That here I am. There they were.
These far greater men than I.

Oh that life would not be so fragile and frail
Especially to those who have the strength to strengthen others.
Those who dream to dare others to dream.
Far greater men than I.
